Sumsub chooses IPinfo for IP geolocation and VPN detection across 4,000+ clients

Sumsub has made IPinfo its primary source for IP geolocation and VPN detection, embedding the data directly into its platform for KYC and fraud prevention checks. For PSPs and verification teams, the detail that matters is not just whether an IP looks risky, but whether the classification can be defended when an auditor or regulator asks for the receipts.

  1. Sumsub says it serves over 4,000 clients across financial services, crypto, trading, and iGaming, and it has now selected IPinfo as its main IP intelligence provider. The data feeds directly into Sumsub’s platform rather than sitting off to the side as a background enrichment layer.
  2. The reason is pretty straightforward: customers were asking why specific IP addresses had been flagged as risky, and Sumsub needed evidence that could stand up to scrutiny. In Vyacheslav Zholudev’s words, “Our customers rely on the signals we provide to make decisions they may ultimately have to defend to their auditors,” so “we have to be able to substantiate every signal we pass on.”
  3. According to the testing Sumsub ran against its known traffic, IPinfo correctly identified the country for 98.77% of the IP addresses tested, placed half of all results within 20 km of the corresponding GPS position, and put fewer than 6% more than 500 km away. For fraud and compliance teams, that last number is the one that usually causes the most pain: large location errors are where useful signals turn into bad decisions.
  4. IPinfo says it provides not only geolocation, but also data on location precision, anonymization and hosting infrastructure, and the network behind an IP address. In practice, that gives Sumsub more context for decisions made at onboarding and during continuous monitoring, which is where these signals tend to get challenged.
  5. Ben Dowling, Founder & Co-CEO of IPinfo, framed the deal as a data-quality issue rather than a feature race: “Providing the evidence behind our data has always been foundational to IPinfo.” That is the point for high-risk operators too — if an IP signal is going to influence onboarding, step-up checks, or account reviews, the provider has to explain not just the answer, but why it arrived there.
