Visa and Dunamu to Build Stablecoin-Based Cross-Border Payment Services

Visa and Dunamu to Build Stablecoin-Based Cross-Border Payment Services

South Korean FinTech company Dunamu, the operator of cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, has entered a strategic partnership with Visa to work on stablecoin- and AI-based payment and financial services. For high-risk PSPs, the interesting part is not the headline buzz around stablecoins, but the plumbing: cross-border transfers, settlement infrastructure, and how these rails might be connected to Visa’s global payment network.

  1. Dunamu and Visa will collaborate on payments, international money transfers, and settlement infrastructure using stablecoins. The partnership roadmap also covers integrating Dunamu’s digital asset infrastructure with Visa’s global payment network, with a focus on new services for stablecoin-based payments and cross-border transfers.
  2. The companies said they will explore how stablecoins can be used in settlement and in connecting digital assets with payments in key international markets. They also plan to develop new mechanisms for cross-border transfers, payments, and settlements, which is the part that matters when you are thinking about real transaction flows rather than slide-deck narratives.
  3. Another workstream is centered on OUSD, a stablecoin introduced by Open Standard and the first supported asset on the Visa Stablecoin Platform (VSP). Dunamu and Visa plan to look at business models that could expand OUSD’s practical use cases after its full launch.
  4. The joint projects will be rolled out in stages and will take into account the legal and regulatory requirements of the relevant markets. The companies named stability, transparency, system interoperability, and regulatory compliance as the core principles of the partnership.
  5. Dunamu and Visa also want to combine stablecoin-based payment and settlement infrastructure with AI technologies, including infrastructure for agentic commerce. They will assess the technology stack and ecosystem architecture for AI payments, while Dunamu CEO Oh Kyung-seok said the deal is meant to connect digital asset infrastructure with the traditional financial system and create new cross-border financial products for users.

Visa is continuing to expand its stablecoin capabilities, and Dunamu is also in talks with Samsung SDS on infrastructure for stablecoins, digital assets, and AI payments. For PSPs watching the market, that tells you where the next layer of experimentation is happening: not just issuing or holding stablecoins, but wiring them into payment, settlement, and AI-driven commerce flows.
