Brazil’s Gov.br app lets users block their CPF from authorized betting sites for 1 to 12 months or indefinitely

The Brazilian government’s Gov.br app now offers a free centralized self-exclusion tool for people who want to stop betting activity linked to their CPF (individual taxpayer ID). For regulated operators, the mechanism matters because it closes active accounts, blocks new registrations, and shuts off targeted marketing across all authorized betting sites at once.

1. The service applies to all betting operators authorized by the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets under Brazil’s Ministry of Finance. Once a user requests the block, operators must close any active accounts and prevent new sign-ups for the chosen period, which can run from 1 to 12 months or be indefinite.
2. This is centralized self-exclusion, not an operator-by-operator request. In practice, that means one request in Gov.br covers all authorized betting sites in Brazil, but it does not reach unlicensed sites or platforms without federal authorization.
3. The block also stops targeted advertising from betting companies, including emails, SMS, and in-app messages. If there is still money in an account, the user has up to two days to withdraw it voluntarily, and the operator must notify them that the account is being closed.
4. The process is free and can be used preventively, even by people who have never placed a bet. To request it, users need a Gov.br account at the silver or gold level, since bronze accounts are not accepted. The search starts in the Gov.br app, but the actual service opens in the Ministry of Finance’s web page on the phone browser.

For PSPs and operators, the operational detail is the point: this is not just a customer-service unlinking exercise. It is a Brazil-wide controls layer that can affect onboarding, retention, CRM flows, and account closure handling for any licensed betting business.
