JOTA to host illegal betting market debate in Brasília on August 31 with IBJR and Brazilian officials

JOTA will host a discussion in Brasília on Monday, August 31, bringing together Brazilian government representatives and industry specialists to talk about illegal betting platforms in Brazil. For PSPs and acquirers, the relevant point is not the event itself but the fact pattern: the topic is enforcement, monitoring, and what the state is already doing to contain unlicensed operators.

  1. The event starts at 19:00 at Casa JOTA in Brasília and is sponsored by the Instituto Brasileiro de Jogo Responsável (IBJR). According to JOTA.INFO, the agenda is split into two panels focused on the current illegal betting market and measures already underway to curb these platforms.
  2. The first panel, at 19:00, will look at the illegal betting market itself. Confirmed participants are Carlos Lima, president of IBJR, and Leonardo Lima, Competition and Public Policy manager at LCA Consultoria Econômica.
  3. The second panel, at 19:40, brings together federal Legislative and Executive names: Marina Pita, deputy secretary of the Digital Policies Secretariat at the Secretariat of Social Communication (Secom) of the Presidency of the Republic; Júlio Lopes, federal deputy (PP-RJ); and Carlos Xavier de Resende, undersecretary for monitoring and enforcement at the Ministry of Finance.
  4. Both panels will be moderated by Luísa Carvalho, a reporter at JOTA. The event will be livestreamed on JOTA’s YouTube channel, with full coverage across JOTA’s channels.
  5. Those wishing to attend in person at Casa JOTA in Brasília must contact [email protected] to check whether seats are still available.
