Spain will block withdrawals if the payment method does not match the account holder, with a six-month review window in the new decree
Spain is moving to block winnings withdrawals for players whose payment method does not match the owner of the gaming account. The new decree gives operators six months to check and align their payment controls, which is the part PSPs and acquirers will care about first.
- The rule targets the payout side: if the payment method used by the player does not belong to the same person as the account holder, withdrawals will be blocked in Spain.
- The decree gives six months for verification. In practice, that means operators need to review their KYC (Know Your Customer) and payment matching workflows now, not after the deadline starts biting.
- For PSPs, acquirers, and bank partners, this is not just a compliance note. It changes how payout routing, account verification, and fraud controls have to work on Spanish iGaming flows.
