Pomelo says it is enabling card issuance in more than 150 countries as it moves from Latin America to a global platform
Pomelo, the cloud infrastructure fintech for issuing, processing, and managing credit, debit, and prepaid cards, is widening its scope well beyond Latin America. For PSPs, banks, and fintechs that want one integration and a broader country footprint, the headline is simple: the company is pitching global card issuance without forcing clients to build market by market.
- Jimena Cortés, Chief of Staff at Pomelo, said the company is shifting from a Latin America-focused infrastructure provider to a global financial infrastructure platform. In her words, Pomelo is now enabling “the issuance of cards in stablecoins and dollars, in more than 150 countries in the world.”
- The core pitch is operational simplification. Cortés said banks, fintechs, and companies increasingly want to run across multiple countries without building separate infrastructure for each market, and Pomelo is positioning its single integration as the way to get there faster.
- On the customer side, the company is tying that strategy to users who expect financial products to work wherever they are: traveling, working from another country, or accessing services without geography getting in the way. That is the use case Pomelo says its infrastructure is built to support.
- Cortés also said Pomelo’s new product is designed to reduce the regulatory and technical complexity of entering different markets, while improving product quality and shortening time to launch. In practice, that is the part high-risk operators care about: fewer integrations, broader reach, and less work to stitch together local issuing setups country by country.
For high-risk PSPs and card programs, the important detail is not just the “global” label. Pomelo is explicitly talking about issuance across more than 150 countries, with stablecoins and dollars in the mix, which puts the company in the conversation for cross-border programs that need coverage without a separate stack for every jurisdiction.
