Mastercard and Borderless.xyz launch pilot for cross-border stablecoin payments using Crypto Credential
Mastercard has joined a pilot with Borderless.xyz to test Mastercard Crypto Credential for cross-border stablecoin payments. For PSPs and stablecoin operators, the point is not faster settlement on its own; it is whether counterparties can be verified once and reused across multiple payment flows instead of re-running compliance checks partner by partner.
- The pilot is focused on improving the reliability and transparency of cross-border stablecoin payments. Mastercard and Borderless.xyz said they will test how Mastercard Crypto Credential can simplify participant verification, reduce compliance costs, and create common standards across the digital asset ecosystem.
- Mastercard said the service is meant to provide standardized trust signals for customer verification, risk management, and regulatory compliance. The company is a U.S. fintech with an API platform for cross-border stablecoin payments that connects businesses to licensed liquidity providers and banking partners without separate integrations for each provider.
- Borderless.xyz said its infrastructure spans more than 94 countries, supports more than 63 fiat currencies, and brings together 14 licensed payment service providers. Kevin Lehtiniitty, CEO and co-founder of Borderless.xyz, said the main problem for stablecoin payment operators is scaling compliance procedures, because each new partner requires verification to begin from scratch. He said Mastercard’s single audit model is meant to remove that friction.
- Several members of the Borderless.xyz network will take part in the pilot: Infinia, Walapay, and Koywe. Mastercard said many of these companies previously participated in the Mastercard Start Path program, and they will be among the first stablecoin payment operators to test a network-scale compliance model based on a single audit using Mastercard Crypto Credential.
Raj Dhamodharan, Mastercard’s Executive Vice President of Blockchain and Digital Assets, said the companies first worked together through the Mastercard Start Path startup program and expanded the partnership as the digital asset market evolved. Mastercard also said it began testing P2P transactions using Ma
