Poker pro Damien Leforbes’ Resorts World sentencing moved to 10 December after plea deal
Damien Leforbes, a professional poker player tied to the Resorts World Las Vegas investigation, will now be sentenced on 10 Dec. after a 15 October hearing pushed the date back by nearly two months. For PSPs and operators, the useful part is not the delay itself but the structure of the case: prosecutors recommended probation, with the first four months to be served in home confinement, in a matter built around money laundering and illegal gambling.
- At the 15 October hearing, US District Judge Monica Ramirez Almadani moved Leforbes’ sentencing date to 10 Dec., according to a spokesman for the US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. The spokesman did not give a reason for the continuance.
- Leforbes reached an agreement with the US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California under which prosecutors recommended probation. Kerry Quinn, an assistant US Attorney, recommended that the sentence include four months of home confinement, which would spare Leforbes from prison time if the court accepts the proposal.
- The case stems from conduct through December 2023. According to a 2025 Nevada regulatory complaint, Leforbes lost in excess of $10 million at Resorts World Las Vegas over a 16-month period. He pleaded guilty in August 2024 to money laundering and operating an illegal gambling business.
- The complaint also placed Leforbes alongside Matt Bowyer, but the two appear to have run separate illegal gambling operations. Bowyer, who pleaded guilty in connection with laundering millions at Resorts World Las Vegas, was also referenced in the same regulatory action.
- Resorts World Las Vegas separately agreed to a $10.5 million fine under a proposed Stipulation of Settlement with the Nevada Gaming Control Board over anti-money laundering deficiencies. The settlement, which did not include an admission of wrongdoing by RWLV, was approved by the Nevada Gaming Commission in March 2025.
There is also a numbers problem here that compliance teams will notice immediately: court filings say Bowyer visited RWLV 80 times over 16 months through Oct. 2023 and incurred net losses of roughly $7.9 million, while Leforbes allegedly wagered at least $148 million over 11 months, producing about $12 million in net losses. In a high-risk file, that is the kind of player activity regulators do not ignore.
