MC João wins injunction to remove “Baile de Favela” jingle from Brazino 777 betting platform
Brazilian funk artist MC João has obtained a court injunction against Futuras Apostas, the company behind the online betting platform Brazino 777, over a Spanish-language version of the “Baile de Favela” jingle. For PSPs and operators, the useful part is straightforward: music licensing disputes can turn into content takedowns, fines, and contract challenges fast.
- A court ordered Brazino 777 to remove the Spanish-language version of the jingle, which had been used on adult-content websites. The judge held that the adaptation went beyond the scope of the original music licensing agreement signed between MC João and the betting company.
- The material must be taken down within 10 days. If the order is not complied with, the court can impose a fine of up to R$ 60 mil.
- The case was reported by Ancelmo Gois in O Globo. The company involved is Futuras Apostas, which controls Brazino 777, an online betting platform.
- The dispute is not limited to the injunction. MC João’s lawyer, Deborah Sztajnjberg, is seeking to invalidate the entire contract with Brazino 777, arguing that clauses not included in the original agreement were added without the artist’s consent and that the company failed to meet parts of the contract.
