SaaScada and Zumo open a regulated crypto route for UK banks ahead of October 2027
SaaScada and Zumo have launched a partnership aimed at UK banks, fintechs, neobanks and wealth managers that want to offer regulated crypto services without building the stack from scratch. The point, from a payments and banking angle, is simple: keep the cash leg inside the institution while Zumo handles the crypto side.
- SaaScada, the cloud-native core banking platform, and Zumo, the UK digital assets platform, announced a strategic partnership that combines cash accounts with regulated crypto services for UK financial institutions.
- According to the FCA, almost one in 10 UK adults hold cryptoassets, and the typical value held is rising. The catch is that most of that activity sits outside the banking relationship, with customers keeping assets on the exchanges where they buy them.
- The setup splits responsibilities in a way that will look familiar to anyone who has tried to bolt crypto onto a banking stack. Zumo, registered with the FCA as a cryptoasset business, handles custody, trading and KYC/AML checks, while SaaScada runs the cash accounts used to fund purchases and receive sale proceeds.
- For banks and wealth managers, the partnership is pitched as a way to open a new revenue line, improve client retention, launch a regulated crypto offering on existing infrastructure instead of a multi-year build, give clients one view of cash and crypto, and track every payment in and out in real time alongside the rest of the client’s banking.
- Nick Jones, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Zumo, said the UK is bringing cryptoassets within the FCA’s regulatory remit, with a comprehensive regime set to take effect in October 2027. He said the partnership is open now to banks, fintechs, neobanks and wealth managers serving UK customers, and that it is built around each firm’s existing proposition rather than sold as a fixed package.
For high-risk and digital-asset businesses, the useful bit is not the branding but the structure: regulated crypto activity can be wrapped around an existing core banking relationship instead of forcing customers to leave their cash elsewhere. That is the difference between crypto sitting on the side and crypto becoming part of the account relationship.
