Thailand police to investigate Shuffle crypto casino through local players
Thailand’s police say they are investigating the online casino Shuffle, and the delay is down to the complexity of the case. For high-risk operators and PSPs, the detail that matters is simple: crypto rails make the money trail harder to trace than the usual local-bank-account flow seen in many illegal Thai gambling sites.
- The Deputy Commissioner-General of Police, who oversees the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD), said the police are investigating Shuffle, a crypto casino registered in Curaçao.
- Shuffle operates through cryptocurrency: players buy crypto, exchange it for the platform’s internal tokens, and place bets. The police said this structure is harder to track than the standard model used by illegal Thai sites that take deposits into local bank accounts.
- Police have already received transaction data linked to Shuffle from three crypto exchanges. To widen the case, they have also created 80 task forces.
- Under Article 5 of Thailand’s Criminal Code on crimes committed abroad that affect Thailand, police must first prosecute players inside the country before they can build evidence against foreign organizers. The cases against local players are meant to help trace the financial flows back to the platform owners.
- Separately, authorities told the Ministry of Digital Economy about more than 900,000 gambling websites for blocking, but only about 30% have been blocked. Police are using AI to find suspicious sites, and citizens can report them via the Cyber Hotline.
