BBB in Central Virginia warns consumers about Crown Coins sweepstakes casino, citing 363 complaints and an F rating
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) in Central Virginia has warned consumers to stay away from Crown Coins, a sweepstakes casino tied to a “pattern of complaints” and an “F” rating. For high-risk PSPs, the useful part is not the consumer warning itself but the mechanism: sweep coins, cash redemption, and the usual fight over whether this is gaming, promotions, or something regulators will eventually decide they dislike more loudly.
- The BBB said Crown Coins is not fully regulated under state laws and that it has already logged 363 customer complaints against the operator. The watchdog also said it could not locate a physical office for the company, which is based in Tel Aviv, Israel.
- Crown Coins uses so-called sweep coins, which let users redeem cash rewards even though the website presents itself as offering free-to-play social games. That business model has drawn scrutiny across the United States, with lawmakers in several states criticizing it and some states, including New Jersey and Minnesota, taking action against it.
- The BBB said players were unable to redeem rewards or had difficulty doing so, describing the issue as a “pattern of complaints” tied to the platform. The organization’s rating system runs from A+ to F, and Crown Coins received the lowest possible grade based on complaint history, business responsiveness, and transparency.
- Crown Coins pushed back by saying some withdrawal requests were denied because users had breached its terms and conditions. The company also said some users tried to use debit and credit cards not issued in their own names, which it said invalidated attempts to redeem cash rewards.
For payment providers, the part to watch is the familiar pressure point: once a sweepstakes model starts looking like real-money casino behavior, the complaints do not stay at the customer-support desk for long. They become an acquiring, onboarding, and bank-partner question.
